The Soundkeeper is a documentary on Walter Maioli’s life and work by renowned director Lisa Rovner (Sisters with Transistors, 2020).
Walter Maioli (Milan, 1950) is an Italian artist, researcher, paleorganologist, poly-instrumentalist and composer, specialized in experimental archaeology and music, in particular that of archaic civilizations. He has been researching the music of antiquity and prehistory for more than 50 years. The Soundkeeper will feature archival footage, as well as new footage shot on 16mm film, showcasing the captivating artistry of Walter Maioli’s multidisciplinary research, dedicated to reviving ancient sounds, through a mesmerizing spectacle of costumes, choreographies, musical compositions, archaic instrumentation and sounds of nature.
